This is St George’s church, on the island of Portland, on the English south coast. This was built in the mid-18th century to replace an older church that had become structurally dangerous.

The churchyard was for the Portland community cemetery. The oldest grave there is for a child of under one year; she was born and died in 1766. Infant mortality was very common then, before vaccines and antibiotics, so this event wouldn’t have been that unusual.

Captured with a 550nm ‘candy chrome’ filter which emulates mid-20th century Kodak Autochrome IR film stock. This passed infrared with some visible light, which provides a useful base for color development.
