Streatham Common is a large green space in South London.
Shot using a 742nm IR filter for black & white work. This produced a particularly striking result, as blue skies are rendered much darker than they appear to the eye. This mix of billowing and stormy-looking clouds over the dark (relatively non-IR-reflective) church structure and the almost white (highly IR-reflective) tree foliage and grass produced an arresting image that required essentially no editing whatsoever.
There’s a strong painterly feel to the clouds in this scene; it captures something that feels particularly like J W M Turner’s work from the early 19th century.
